16. 3. 2010 IS WORLD SOCIAL WORK DAY!

The motto of this year’s World Social Work Day is: MAKING HUMAN RIGHTS REAL – the SOCIAL WORK AGENDA.

World social work day is a celebration of the efforts of people striving for a better quality of live and of social workers’ role in that. Make 16.3.2010 a day that commemorates this celebration!

Organize an event at your university or in your community; make an exhibition of projects your students are involved in; invite people to discuss what social work is today!

PLEASE SEND US INFORMATION, PHOTOS, DOCUMENTS, INVITATIONS, REPORTS ON HOW YOU/YOUR SCHOOL HAVE CELEBRATED THIS IMPORTANT DAY!

We will publish the contributions on the website, and show how very active the schools in Eastern Europe really are! Social work matters!

DEFINITION OF SOCIAL WORK

European Association of Schools of Social Work invites us to take part in the digital survey on the DEFINITION OF SOCIAL WORK.

The current definition has been in use for ten years, and it might change. It takes only 20 minutes to fill out the survey, but this is a chance to give our opinions about the definition of social work.

International Symposium in Ljubljana, Slovenia

 

Dear Colleagues,

Faculty of social work, University of Ljubljana, Slovenia is organising

International Symposium with a title Crossing the borders in social work: internationalism in social work education and research, that will be held on 22nd April 2010 as part of the 4th Congress of Social Work.

2010 is a European year of the fight against poverty and social exclusion and we want to explore how international social work programmes and projects contribute to that. You can find more information on the symposium at the web page:

2010 AGENDA BUILDING

International Association of Schools of Social Work invites you to share your opinions and build together a global AGENDA FOR ACTION FOR SOCIAL WORK AND SOCIAL DEVELOPMENT.

PLEASE TAKE PART IN THE AGENDA BUILDING AND RESPOND TO THE FOLLOWING QUESTIONS:

  1. What are the main challenges, issues, themes and dilemmas facing your country or your community in this coming decade?
  2. What are the challenges for social work education and practice resulting from these social challenges?
  3. What are the main challenges for your region for the next 5 years?

Please, help build an agenda for action in social work and social development by answering to these 3 questions and send the answers to EEsrASSW ( This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it ) by the end of January. The answers will be anonymously transferred to the IASSW as a report on the agenda of the Eastern-European region. This is our chance to contribute to building a global agenda and inform the global public on our specific issues and goals.

 

Establishment of Eastern European Sub-Regional Association of Schools of Social Work of the IASSW - EEsrASSW


Dear friends and colleagues!

It is my greatest pleasure to announce that Eastern-European schools of social work have for the first time in the history of this region the opportunity to be join together to form a regional association. In July 2008, during the Board Meeting of the International Association of the Schools of Social Work at the 34 th biennial congress of the IASSW in Durban, South Africa, the Board of Directors acknowledged the initiative for the establishment of the new Eastern-European Sub-Regional Association of Schools of Social Work as a new sub-region of the IASSW.

The beginnings of this endeavour go back to the year 2006 – with the initiative to create a network of Eastern-European schools of social work which has gradually transformed into an association which is part of the EASSW and IASSW. In accordance with the common previous deliberations and suggestions, the formation of the Eastern European Sub-Regional Association of the Schools of Social Work was agreed in date.
