World Social Work Day – Tuesday 20 March 2012 UN Social Work Day – Monday 26 March 2012
World Social Work Day celebrated on the 20 March 2012 is the annual opportunity for all social work organisations to promote the significant role of social workers and the profession. Social work will also be celebrated on United Nations Social Work Day 6 days later on 26 March 2012. On that day, IFSW and our partners will present the objectives of the Global Agenda for Social Work and Social Development to the United Nations.
EESRASSW invites you to celebrate this day with making it possible for social workers to read this important document, the Global Agenda, also in your own language.

Katherine A. Kendall 1910-2010
With sadness, we announce the passing of an icon of international social work. Dr. Katherine A. Kendall died on December 1, 2010, at her home in Mitchellville, Maryland in the United States. Dr. Kendall was active in the IASSW for 60 years and worked with every president of the association except the first. She was the child administrative officer of the Association from 1954-1978, first as elected Secretary and then as Secretary General of the IASSW from 1966 until her “retirement” in 1978. Since that time, she has served as a lifetime member of the IASSW Board of Directors. Dr. Kendall—known as Katherine to hundreds of social work educators on every continent—provided invaluable advice to leaders of the IASSW over many years. She celebrated her 100th birthday in September, marked by a party hosted by the U.S. Council on Social Work Education. A more detailed biography of Dr. Kendall will be posted at a later date. In the meantime, we mourn our loss, but celebrate Katherine’s life and her many contributions to social work education.
The members of the East European Sub-regional Association of the Schools of Social Work respectfully express condolences to Katherine Kendall's family and will keep the memory of her work and life in our future work. Prof. Darja Zaviršek

“We must never forget that social work is a humanising as well as a developing force in society. […] Social work can never be value-free. Neither can it be culture free. I predict, nevertheless, that acceptance of the difference as good and neccessary could lead to a new era for international communication and collaboration in social work education. The time is ripe for cross-national, cross-cultural and interdisciplinary vetures in research, teaching and practice.”
Katherine Kendall, 1978.
